How to talk about a couples toy before buying one
The useful conversation covers interest, boundaries, controls, privacy, cleanup, and what happens if either person changes their mind.

Start with curiosity, not a sales pitch
A product suggestion should be an invitation, not a test of openness or affection. Explain what interests you without assuming the other person wants the same thing. Ask an open question, listen to the answer, and make room for no, not now, or a different idea.
Avoid presenting a purchase as a solution to a partner's body or performance. That framing creates pressure and can turn a neutral product into criticism. Focus on shared curiosity, comfort, and communication. Consent to discuss a product is not consent to buy or use it.
Discuss controls and roles
Remote and app-controlled products introduce decisions about who controls intensity, how control is transferred, and how either person stops the session immediately. Agree on a simple stop signal and keep manual controls accessible. An app connection should never remove the nearby user's ability to turn the device off.
Talk about fit, positioning, noise, and whether the product is meant for external, internal, or wearable use. Manufacturer instructions define intended use. Do not assume a device is suitable for a different purpose because its shape appears versatile.
Include privacy and care
Connected products may request accounts, Bluetooth permissions, contacts, location, or other data. Review the current privacy policy together before creating an account. Use a unique password, limit permissions, and understand whether remote invitations can be revoked. If the privacy terms feel excessive, choose a non-connected product.
Agree on cleaning, storage, charging, and whether the product is shared. Follow manufacturer guidance for barriers and cleaning between users. Decide where it will be stored and who is responsible for keeping the charger and instructions.
Keep the first experiment small
A first shared product does not need every feature. Simple controls and a familiar format can leave more attention for communication. Set a modest expectation: learn the controls, check comfort, and stop whenever either person wants. A purchase does not create an obligation to continue using it.
This guide offers communication prompts, not relationship or medical advice. Every participant must be an adult and consent freely. Product listings and app policies change, so recheck the exact model, current instructions, and privacy terms before buying or connecting a device.
